Causes of the War of 1812

War of 1812

The war of 1812 is well known throughout the U.S as a second war for independence. The British could care less about the war because they were busy with Napoleon on the other side of the Atlantic in the Napoleonic War. Neither side can agree on who won the war, but they both agree that the Indians lost because of all their land lost.
The British impressment on American sailors was one of the main causes of the War of 1812. This was not meant to hurt the U.S; it was meant to hurt trade between the U.S and France because at the time the British were involved in war with France. The U.S also believed that the British had little to no respect for their government and their country. Also, British laws were a cause like blockades against U.S ships.
Who were the real winners of the war? I believe that the U.S won the war primarily because the war caused the U.S to reconnect as a nation. It promoted nationalism! The War of 1812 took a weight off the shoulders of Americans because they no longer had fears of Britain regaining control over everything...again. The war also increased the confidence of the military because they had just beaten the strongest military ,Britain,  at the time.
